| The tall native perennial also known as the Parasol Aster, is one of the earliest flowering asters, growing small (1-2 cm) white ray flowers, surrounding a yellow disk, forming flat-topped clusters of 2-15 flowers. The yellow disk turns a purplish grey with age, the grayish flower heads persist late into fall, August-September. The plant has lance shaped-toothless leaves about 15cm long with a rigid upright stem carrying the flower clusters. The flower usually grows to a height of .5-2cm found in moist thickets, swamp edges or roadsides. |
